Lyrics, poetry and art all meshed together

Thursday, May 24, 2007

Hello Blogger family,

I know it's been a while since I've touched the keyboard. I'm still trying to determine how to elaborate what's been happening with me. It's a long story but i'll make it interesting. First off i've been ill since last October dealing with swollen knees which I thought was an injury from the gym, well my knees got worse to the point of me not being able to go to work. You know how it is in NY, the ups and downs of stairs in the streets with people rushing to get to their destinations. I've been walking like an old person, going to physical therapy which made my knees worse so I had to stop. To make the story short my doctor put me on medical leave, i've been on leave for almost a month now and my mother flew in to take care of me, she's been a tremendous help cooking and cleaning. I found out from the doctor that I have a case of lupus which caused all my joints to swell including my liver which is why it's been too painful to sleep, walk or do any normal movement. I'm now on heavy duty meds to clear all swellings and to bring me back to normal. The meds themselves have side effects but I'm on them for another four weeks. It's been a roller coaster ride but I'm here and miss you all so much.

I haven't been writing much, i've been addicted to painting a lot as you can see. I am loving the 5x7 canvas which I purchased at this cool art store in Manhattan. They are so convenient and easy to paint on.

By the way, get your copy of the Essence Magazine (June issue) on sale now, my poem Confused Being is featured on page 199. Thank you all for your support.

Let me know what you think of the paintings...

Hey there :)

I'm sorry you're going through a hard time, I hope all will be ok soon. Take good care of yourself, rest, relax and let your family spoil you (we all need this from time to time, don't we?)

I love the paintings!!!

Every woman is a goddess in your paintings and portrayals of them through poetry.

Aside from the art. How are you really? Illness can be so devastating, and you appear to be handling it well enough in your words, but how are YOU? I would connect with you by email (mine is on my blog), but I figured you haven't posted yours for a reason.

Cathy, let the entire deepest darkest self out. It's the only way to live. There is so much love in your art, but sometimes I wonder who Cathy really is when she is hurting.

Cathy,

Of course your paintings are as expressive and reflective of your beauty as ever. I'm glad you've been artistically productive, but I'll confess to being genuinely worried. We are still doing HBF together in July right?

PS: Mes omages a ta mere. Tu me manque. :-(

KISSKISS SIS. I am sending all the love that I have within me - to you right NOW. My new love's mom has lupus and has problems with painful and swollen legs. So - through her pain I can almost understand yours. I am adding you to my prayers. Be strong sis. With patience and strength - you will get through this. Besides - you have a wonderfully supportive blogfam (as I recently confirmed) that will be here for you. I'm going to get the Essence tomorrow. :-)

The paintings are wonderful, Ms. Dela! I love your talent!

My aunt has lupus, and I've watched her battle that demon for almost 10 years now. It's definitely not a condition to take lightly, however, like alot of other things, it is manageable. I'm so sorry to hear about all that you've been going through. I know what you're dealing with isn't easy, but I pray that God keeps you in His hands, which He will!! Take good care of yourself and know that you are in my thoughts and prayers! And congrats on being in Essence magazine again! You go girl! =)

Love ya! *muah*
